Olanzapine is an atypical antipsychotic. It is dopamine antagonist and belongs to the class of thienobenzodiazepines. The precise mechanism of action of Olanzapine is unknown. It is proposed that its efficacy in treating schizophrenia is provided by antagonism of dopamine in the mesolimbic pathway and serotonin type 2 in the frontal cortex, which reduces positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia.

Olanzapine, marketed as Zyprexa among other brand names, is an atypical antipsychotic medication primarily used to treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and other psychotic conditions. It is classified as a second-generation antipsychotic, working by modulating several neurotransmitter systems in the brain, especially dopamine and serotonin pathways.
