DESCRIPTION
Maxitrol includes antibiotic substances that are used treatment and prevention of eye infections caused by bacteria. It’s very important to determine the cause of infection for the efficacy of therapy. The drug won’t work for other types of infections, caused by fungi or viruses. Moreover, it can badly affect the patient as antibiotics shouldn’t be abused not to lower their effectiveness. Take antibiotics when it’s necessary only.
Such substances as polymixin and neomycin contained in this medication belong to antibiotics, hence effectively curb the growth of bacteria. The other highly effective component is dexamethasone, which is a corticosteroid added to the drug for the anti-inflammatory effect. It reduces eye swelling.
The medication works by disrupting the protein synthesis of the bacterial cell.
The person with glaucoma and cataract should apply the medication with caution. It is not recommended for breastfeeding women. The pregnant women should take the medication only in case the therapeutic positive effect outweighs the risks taken. The medication should not be used for children as efficacy and safety of this drug for children weren’t clinically established.  

PACKAGING & DOSAGE
Maxitrol comes in the form of drops.
Active substances: Dexamethasone, Neomycin sulfate, and Polymyxin B sulfate.
Excipients include benzalkonium chloride, sodium chloride, polysorbate20, hypromellose, concentrated hydrochloric acid, and sodium hydroxide for adjustment of the pH.
1-2 drops of the drug are applied to the eyes 4 or 6 times a day. However, much depends upon the severity of the condition. In the case of the acute infectious process use 1-2 drops to the eyes each hour and reduce the frequency of use as the condition improves. It is not recommend wearing contact lenses when being treated with Maxitrol.

STORAGE
Keep the bottle tightly closed. Store in dry place at a temperature from 8 degrees Celsius. Do not exceed storage temperature higher than 30 degrees Celsius. Keep away from direct sunlight. Keep locked and away from children.
