FAVIROX (Famciclovir, Famvir) - is an antiviral drug that is used to treat infections caused by certain types of viruses, in particular herpes. It is best to use right after the symptoms of shingles, preferably within 48 hours after pain, blisters or burning appears. In case the patient is diagnosed with genital herpes, it’s advised to start treatment within 6 hours.

DESCRIPTION
The viruses that cause the infections don’t disappear and remain in the body between outbreaks. Favirox is applied to decrease the severity and duration of these outbreaks.
The patient diagnosed with genital herpes should understand that this is a sexually transmitted disease. Therefore sexual intercourse should be avoided during relapses, when the risk of infection increases and should follow this rule even if antiviral treatment is started.
During suppressive therapy with antiviral agents, the frequency of virus shedding decreases considerably, but the risk of transmission of infection remains. In connection with the above the rules of safe sexual behavior should be observed during the therapy.
Favirox can cause dizziness and drowsiness in some patients therefore it’s better to avoid driving if you take the medicine.
PACKAGE & DOSAGE
Favirox comes in tablets of 500 mg. The active substance is Famciclovir. The tablets are taken orally and the dosage depends upon the diagnosis.
Favirox can be taken with or without food. It’s advised to continue therapy even if you see improvement of symptoms. Don’t skip doses and don’t take the medication more often than prescribed. The duration of therapy should be determined by your doctor.
