DESCRIPTION
Elidel 1% Cream is a topical calcineurin inhibitor containing Pimecrolimus (1%) as the active ingredient. It is used to treat mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adults and children (2 years and older). Unlike corticosteroids, Elidel does not cause skin thinning and can be used on sensitive areas like the face and neck. Elidel is used to treat mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (eczema) in patients who have already been treated with other medicines that did not work well.
Unlike corticosteroids, Elidel does not cause skin thinning (atrophy) or stretch marks, making it safer for long-term use. Unlike steroids, Elidel does not cause a "rebound effect" when stopped. Very little enters the bloodstream, reducing the risk of serious side effects.
Apply a thin layer to affected skin twice daily. Continue until symptoms disappear, but stop if no improvement in 6 weeks.
