ALCAINE (Proxymetacaine) eye drops are used to numb the eye prior to the surgery, eye procedures and eye tests. The eye drops have an anesthetic effect. It is used to block temporarily the pain "message" that is sent along the nerves that connect the eyes to the brain.

DESCRIPTION
Alcaine belongs to the class of local anesthetics. The eye drops work by blocking nerve conduction. It is important to consider that the substances in the drug may limit the permeability of sodium ion via the lipid layer of the nerve cell membrane. The medication starts working almost immediately. The duration of the Alcaine effect continues for 10-20 minutes, during which the planned eye procedure should be completed. The medication can be contraindicated for patients with hypersensitivity to anesthetics of ester type. Also, patients with cardiac diseases should take preparation with caution. The prolonged use of the drug is not allowed as it can cause undesirable irreversible consequences in the body. Prolonged use can damage corneal epithelium.
PACKAGING & DOSAGE
The medication comes in the form of eye drops, 0,5% concentration, 15 ml per vial.
Active ingredient: 1 ml contains proxymetacaine 5 mg.
Excipients: Benzalkonium chloride, solution, equivalent to benzalkonium chloride, glycerol, concentrated hydrochloric acid and / or sodium hydroxide to adjust the pH, purified water.
Recommended dose before the eye procedure is 1-2 drops in each eye. When short conjunctival procedures are planned, it is recommended to repeat the process 5-7 times with 5-10 minute interval. It is essential to cover the eye with a bandage after surgical manipulation as the "blinking" reflex is temporarily eliminated.

STORAGE
Store at the temperature 2-8 degrees Celsius. Can be temporarily stored outside the fridge. Keep locked and away from children. Consume within 4 weeks after the opening of the vial.
