DESCRIPTION
Voriconazole kills or stops the growth of fungi that cause infections inside the body. It is used when infections are serious or life-threatening, such as aspergillosis (lung infection) and candidemia (fungus in the blood) or severe yeast infections in the throat and other organs.

It helps treat invasive aspergillosis by directly attacking Aspergillus fungi, stopping their growth and spread in the lungs and body. Voriconazole blocks an enzyme fungi need to build their cell walls, weakening and killing them while sparing human cells. It reaches high levels in lung tissue and blood, targeting invasive growth early to prevent spread to organs like the brain.

Benefits:
  • Oral tablets allow home treatment after hospital start, with good absorption similar to IV.
  • Works against fungi like Scedosporium and Fusarium when other antifungals fail.
  • For high-risk hematopoietic stem cell transplant patients, it prevents fungal infections.
