Description
RIFAXIMIN (Riftal) is a non-absorbable, broad-spectrum antibiotic primarily used to treat gastrointestinal infections and related conditions.
USES
- Treatment of travelers’ diarrhea.
- Treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea.
- Prevention and reduction of overt hepatic encephalopathy (HE) recurrence.
GUARANTEE & EXPIRY DATE
100% original from various Indian pharmaceutical manufacturers. Product photo may vary. All packs are air tight sealed and expire up to 12.2029.
DESCRIPTION
Rifaximin binds to the β-subunit of bacterial RNA polymerase, inhibiting RNA synthesis and subsequently bacterial protein production. This action blocks bacterial growth and reduces populations of both gram-positive and gram-negative aerobic and anaerobic bacteria mainly in the small intestine.
Because it is poorly absorbed, rifaximin acts predominantly within the gastrointestinal tract, limiting systemic side effects. Besides antibacterial effects, it may have anti-inflammatory properties mediated by modulation of host receptors like pregnane X receptor, which can reduce gut inflammation and visceral hypersensitivity.
Benefits:
- Effectively treats diarrhea caused by bacterial infections and IBS-D symptoms, improving quality of life.
- Helps prevent recurrent hepatic encephalopathy episodes, supporting liver disease management.
- Minimal systemic absorption reduces risk of systemic toxicity and side effects.
- Low likelihood of developing bacterial resistance due to local action and limited systemic exposure.
