PREDNISOLONE (Orapred, PediaPred, Millipred) is a type of product known as a corticosteroid or steroid. Corticosteroids are not the same as anabolic steroids. Prednisolone is used to treat a wide range of health problems including allergies, blood disorders, skin diseases, infections, certain cancers and to prevent organ rejection after a transplant. It helps by reducing inflammation. It also damps down your immune system, which can help in autoimmune illnesses like rheumatoid arthritis, where your immune system mistakenly attacks its own tissues.

  • Autoimmune disorders.
  • Adrenocortical insufficiency.
  • High blood calcium.

DESCRIPTION
Prednisolone is a man-made form of a natural substance (corticosteroid hormone) made by the adrenal gland. Prednisone is a strong anti-inflammatory steroid and jack-of-all-trades. Prednisone mimics cortisol, your body’s “fight-or-flight” hormone. Cortisol’s many responsibilities include keeping inflammation at bay. “When we use prednisone as a treatment, we’re usually trying to either reduce inflammation directly or moderate the body’s inflammatory response,” says Dr. Ford.

Prednisolone works by mimicking the effects of cortisol, a hormone produced naturally by the adrenal glands. It reduces inflammation by decreasing the activity of the immune system, thereby providing relief from symptoms like swelling, redness, and allergic reactions. It is used in conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, ulcerative colitis, asthma, and severe allergies, and also to manage adrenal insufficiency.

More specific, Prednisolone acts on glucocorticoid receptors to regulate the expression of anti-inflammatory proteins and suppress pro-inflammatory genes. This reduces the migration of immune cells to sites of inflammation and decreases the production of chemicals that cause inflammation. It influences carbohydrate, protein, and fat metabolism, maintaining homeostasis during stress. It also plays a role in suppressing the immune system to prevent tissue damage.

Benefits:

  • Rapidly reduces inflammation and immune-mediated symptoms

  • Controls allergic reactions and asthma exacerbations

  • Supports hormone replacement in adrenal insufficiency

  • Reduces symptoms and progression of autoimmune diseases.

PACKAGE & DOSAGE
One package tablets contains 50 tablets available in 5 mg, 10 mg, 20 mg and 40 mg strength.

The dosage of prednisolone depends on the specific health condition, its severity, and the patient's response. For adults, usual doses range from 5 mg to 60 mg daily, sometimes higher, often taken as a single dose with breakfast to minimize stomach upset and sleep disturbances. For short-term treatment, such as acute conditions, doses may start around 20-30 mg daily and then be gradually reduced depending on response. For longer-term therapy, the dose may be adjusted to the lowest effective amount. In children, the dose is calculated based on body weight, generally 0.14 to 2 mg per kilogram per day, divided into several doses.
Specific doses for conditions like rheumatoid arthritis may be around 7.5 to 10 mg daily for maintenance. For acute asthma in children, doses vary by age, e.g., 20 mg for ages 2-5 and 30-40 mg for older children.

The dose of Prednisolone and the duration of treatment are set by the doctor individually, depending on the indications and the severity of the disease.
In acute adrenal insufficiency, a single dose of Prednisolone is 100-200 mg, daily 300-400 mg.
For severe allergic reactions, Prednisolone is administered in a daily dose of 100-200 mg for 3-16 days.
In bronchial asthma, the drug is administered, depending on the severity of the disease and the effectiveness of complex treatment, from 75 to 675 mg for a course of treatment from 3 to 16 days; in severe cases, the dose can be increased to 1400 mg per course of treatment or more with a gradual dose reduction.
In status asthmaticus, Prednisolone is administered at a dose of 500–1200 mg per day, followed by a decrease to 300 mg per day and a transition to maintenance doses.

Good product

Having been cut off from doctor prescription after a year of steroid therapy, i rely on indian prednisone to stay alive. The dosing is accurate because it works just as well as american prednisone did. Rupharma has the best pricing for prednisone of any vendor i've found so far, i'm very glad to have found an affordable source for this!
