DOXACARD (Doxazosin) helps people when their blood pressure is too high or when they have trouble peeing because their prostate is too big. It works by relaxing the muscles in the blood vessels and around the bladder so that blood can flow better and peeing becomes easier.
USES
High blood pressure (hypertension).
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

DESCRIPTION
Sometimes people's blood vessels are tight, making the heart work too hard to push blood around the body. Doxazosin helps by making those vessels relax and open wider.
For men with a big prostate, it helps relax the muscles around the bladder so they can pee better and not feel like they need to go all the time. It does not make the prostate smaller, but helps make peeing easier.
Doxazosin is an alpha-1 adrenergic blocker from the quinazoline class. It is used alongside other medications for high blood pressure or as monotherapy for BPH. The medicine can come as regular tablets or extended-release forms for gradual absorption in the body.
Doxazosin works by selectively blocking alpha-1 adrenergic receptors found on blood vessels and the prostate. Blocking these receptors causes blood vessels to relax and dilate, helping to lower blood pressure and ease urine flow in BPH.
Benefits:
Reduces the risk of complications from high blood pressure, such as stroke, heart attack, and kidney problems.
Improves difficult urination caused by an enlarged prostate, which reduces the sense of incomplete bladder emptying and frequency of urination, especially at night.
Can be used as an add-on treatment with other blood pressure treatments.
Adult dose: 25, 50, or 100 mg as a single dose at migraine onset. If symptoms return, a second dose can be taken after at least 2 hours; maximum 200 mg in 24 hours. Children: Dose and safety must be determined by a doctor.

SIDE EFFECTS AND PRECAUTIONS
Dizziness, headaches, drowsiness, feeling tired, swelling in the feet or hands, and stomach discomfort.
Use cautiously in patients with severe liver or kidney disease, history of low blood pressure, or heart failure. Start with a low dose to reduce the risk of a sudden fall in blood pressure, especially after the first dose (this is known as the “first-dose effect”). Do not stop taking suddenly as it may cause blood pressure to rise quickly.
STORAGE Store in dry place at room temperature. Do not exceed storage temperature higher than 25 degrees Celcius. Keep away from direct sunlight. Keep locked and away from children.
