DESCRIPTION
Dexona contains dexamethasone, a potent glucocorticoid steroid that reduces inflammation by suppressing immune system activity. It is used for conditions such as skin disorders (e.g., dermatitis, psoriasis), allergic reactions, arthritis, respiratory diseases (like asthma), blood and hormonal disorders, and certain cancers. It can also reduce inflammation caused by diseases like multiple sclerosis, cerebral edema, and autoimmune disorders.
Dexamethasone works by decreasing the migration of neutrophils, reducing lymphocyte proliferation, stabilizing cellular membranes, and inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines. It has minimal mineralocorticoid activity. It is well absorbed orally, metabolized by the liver via CYP3A4, and excreted mainly in urine. The half-life is approximately 4 hours.
