CEFTRIAXONE (Lendacin, Rocephin) - is an antibiotic used for the treatment of a number of bacterial infections. These include middle ear infections, endocarditis, meningitis, pneumonia, bone and joint infections, intra-abdominal infections, skin infections, urinary tract infections, gonorrhea, and pelvic inflammatory disease. It is also sometimes used before surgery and following a bite wound to try to prevent infection.

DESCRIPTION
3rd generation cephalosporin for parenteral administration. It has a bactericidal effect against many gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Ceftriaxone is resistant to β-lactamases.
It is active against the following microorganisms: Streptococcus viridans, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Neisseria meningitidis, Haemophilus ducreyi, Yersinia pestis, Borellia burgdorferi, Treponema pallidum, Serratia marcescens, Peptostreptococcus spp., Proteus mirabilis, Proteus vulgaris.

PACKAGING
CEFTRIAXONE comes in the form of powder for reconstitution with Lidocaine (IM injection) or Water for Injection (IV injection): 1 gramm per vial, 10 vials per pack.

Active ingredient:
Ceftriaxone - 1 gramm.

DOSAGE
Ceftriaxone is administered intramuscularly (IM) or intravenously (IV). Dosage and method of application are determined on the basis of data on the severity of infection, the sensitivity of microorganisms, the age and condition of the patient. The duration of therapy depends on the course of the disease.

The course of treatment is usually 4-14 days; with complicated infections, a longer administration may be required. The course of treatment for infections caused by Streptococcus pyogenes should be at least 10 days.

Adults and children over 12 years old with body weight ≥50 kg: the usual dose is 1 to 2 g of ceftriaxone once a day (every 24 hours). The maximum daily dose is 4 g. In order to avoid a local reaction with intramuscular injection, injections into the left and right muscles should be alternated.
