Lowering blood pressure may lower your risk of a stroke or heart attack. Altace is also used to treat congestive heart failure. Altace reduces the general vascular peripheral resistance, does not change significantly a renal blood flow. Increases activity of a renin in plasma.

DESCRIPTION
Altace (ramipril) is used to reduce high blood pressure (hypertension) by reducing or relaxing blood vessels and to reduce the risk of stroke, heart attack. It reduces stress on the heart and relaxes the blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily. Altace may also be used to treat heart failure in patients who have had a recent heart attack.
Altace widens the blood vessels and makes it easier for the heart to pump blood around your body, thereby lowering your blood pressure. Controlled blood pressure reduces the risk of having a heart attack, stroke, or kidney problems. The medicine must be taken regularly as prescribed to be effective.
SIDE EFFECTS AND PRECAUTIONS
Do not stop abruptly (risk rebound hypertension). Avoid with aliskiren (diabetics), potassium supplements/sparing diuretics, or NSAIDs (kidney risk).
