DESCRIPTION
Tranxiety (Etifoxine) is a pharmaceutical agent developed in the 1960s. It exerts its calming effects by enhancing GABA activity—a key neurotransmitter that promotes relaxation—and stimulating the biosynthesis of endogenous neurosteroids like allopregnanolone, which are positive modulators of GABA receptors. It is used to address psychosomatic manifestations of anxiety, promoting both central calming effects and peripheral nerve stabilization.
Tranxiety (Etifoxine) binds to GABA-A receptors directly and also targets mitochondrial translocator proteins (TSPO), leading to increased neurosteroid production, which amplifies GABAergic inhibitory effects. It is well-absorbed orally with a bioavailability of approximately 90% and reaches peak plasma levels within 2 to 3 hours.
Etifoxine offers anxiolytic effects with a potentially lower risk of sedation and dependency compared to benzodiazepines. Its neurosteroid-mediating mechanism could translate into fewer side effects related to cognitive impairment, making it a suitable option for long-term management of anxiety.
The standard dosage often recommended is 150-200 mg per day. Commonly 50 mg to 100 mg two or three times daily divided into two or three doses. It is recommend to use Tranxiety for a period ranging from a few days up to 12 weeks.
