DESCRIPTION
Tamsulosin is an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor blocker. It works by selectively relaxing the smooth muscle in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate. Unlike some other treatments for BPH, tamsulosin does not shrink the prostate but helps relieve symptoms by reducing muscle tension in the urinary tract. It is typically taken once daily, and its benefits are sustained with long-term use.
Tamsulosin selectively blocks alpha-1A and alpha-1D adrenergic receptors, which are predominantly found in the prostate, bladder neck, and urethra. It relaxes smooth muscle, improving urine flow and reducing BPH symptoms without significantly affecting blood pressure.
