DESCRIPTION
Sumatriptan is an agonist of 5-HT1-serotonin receptors located, mainly, in the brain's blood vessels. The stimulation of these receptors leads to narrowing of blood vessels in the brain, which helps to relieve migraine and cluster headaches. It is an analog of the naturally occurring neuro-active alkaloids dimethyltryptamine, bufotenine, and 5-methoxy-dimethyltryptamine, with an N-methyl sulfonamidomethy-1 group at position C-5 on the indole ring. PACKAGING & DOSAGE
Active substance: sumatriptan (sumatriptan succinate)
Excipients: hyprolose (Klucel hydroxypropyl cellulose LF), calcium hydrophosphate dehydrate, mannitol (mannitol), magnesium stearate, croscarmellose sodium (Primerose), microcrystalline cellulose.
The treatment of migraine headaches by Sumatriptan should be started as soon as possible with the first migraine attacks. Recommended starting dose is 50mg. Swallow each tablet whole with water.
If it is required, the dose is increased to 100mg. If the symptoms of migraine remain after taking the first dose of Sumatriptan, do not take the second dose to resolve the same migraine attack. To resolve the following migraine attacks (after a transient improvement) a second dose may be administered at least 2 hours after the first dose. The maximum daily dose is 300mg in a 24-hour period.
