NOLPAZA (Pantoprazole, Protonix) is a proton pump inhibitor that decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach. Pantoprazole is used to treat erosive esophagitis (damage to the esophagus from stomach acid caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD) in adults and children who are at least 5 years old. Pantoprazole is usually given for up to 8 weeks at a time while your esophagus heals. Pantoprazole is also used to treat Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and other conditions involving excess stomach acid.

USES

• Gastroesophageal reflux disease including erosive ulcerative reflux esophagitis, heartburn, sour regurgitation and pain when swallowing.
• Peptic ulcer and duodenal ulcer (in the acute phase), erosive gastritis (including those associated with the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
• Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome.
• Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in combination with antibacterial agents.

DESCRIPTION
Study of pantoprazole began in 1985, and it came into medical use in Germany in 1994. It is available as a generic medication. In 2018, it was the nineteenth most commonly prescribed medication in the United States, with more than 28 million prescriptions.

PACKAGE & DOSAGE
The drug is taken orally, before meals, without chewing or crushing, drinking a sufficient amount of liquid.
Active ingredient: pantoprazole - 20 or 40 mg per tablet.
Excipients: mannitol, crospovidone, sodium carbonate, sorbitol, calcium stearate.
Film casing: hypromellose, povidone K-25, titanium dioxide (E171), iron dye yellow oxide (E172), propylene glycol, methacrylic acid and ethyl acrylate copolymer (1: 1), 30% dispersion1, talc, macrogol-6000

Mild cases: the recommended dose is 20 mg per day;
Moderate and severe: the recommended dose is 40-80 mg per day. Symptom relief usually occurs within 2–4 weeks. The course of therapy is 4-8 weeks. For prophylaxis, as well as as a maintenance long-term therapy, take 20 mg per day and if necessary, the dose is increased to 40-80 mg per day. It is possible to take the drug "as needed" if symptoms occur.
