DESCRIPTION
Kenalog (Triamcinolone) is injected. It is given in a hospital or clinic setting under medical supervision. Triamcinolone is a synthetic glucocorticoid. It imitates natural steroid hormones your body produces. It helps to adjust your immune system when it overreacts. Your doctor might prescribe this medication for allergic or immune-related conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis, allergies, and mouth ulcers. It was first approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1958, so it’s been around for a long time.

PACKAGE & DOSAGE
Kenalog comes in the form of vials for injection.
Active ingredient: Triamcinolone acetonide 40 mg.
Excipients: Carmellose sodium 6.30 mg, sodium chloride 6.60 mg, benzyl alcohol 9.90 mg, polysorbate-80 0.40 mg, water for injection up to 1.00 ml.

Kenalog is administered via intra-articular (into joints), intramuscular (into muscle, typically gluteal), intradermal (into skin), or intralesional routes.

Inflammation (Swelling) & Allergic Reactions: Intramuscular (IM) into gluteal muscle: Adults start at 40–60 mg (1–1.5 mL of 40 mg/mL). Adjust to 20–80 mg based on response.

Gout: Intra-articular: Similar to arthritis—small joints 2.5–5 mg; larger up to 40 mg per affected joint. Inject directly into acutely inflamed joint (e.g., big toe or knee) for rapid relief.

Skin Diseases: Intralesional/Intradermal (into lesion): 1–20 mg per lesion (e.g., 0.1 mL of 10 mg/mL per cm²). Total max 30–80 mg/session.

SIDE EFFECTS AND PRECAUTIONS

Increased appetite, weight gain, and higher blood sugar or blood pressure.
Do not stop long-term Kenalog suddenly; doses usually need to be tapered to avoid adrenal crisis and withdrawal.

STORAGE
Store in dry place at room temperature. Do not exceed storage temperature higher than 25 degrees Celcius. Keep away from direct sunlight.
