DESCRIPTION
The drug can be taken as monotherapy when partial seizures are treated. Alternatively, the medication is prescribed as adjunctive therapy for partial seizures with either secondary generalization or without.
The exact mechanism of action of the medication is not known. The drug is excreted unchanged exclusively by renal excretion. Its half-life does not depend on the dose and takes on average from 5 to 7 hours.
The maximum concentration of gabapentin in the blood plasma is reached within 2-3 hours after oral administration. The absolute bioavailability of 300 mg capsules is about 60%.

PACKAGING & DOSAGE
The medication comes in capsules that contain 300, 600 or 800 mg of Gabapentin, which is an active substance.
The medication is usually prescribed to be taken three times a day with or without meals. The capsules should be taken whole with water.
The dose varies from 900 to 3600 mg a day depending upon the condition, age and weight of the patient. The dose is split into three doses taking in the morning, day and evening.
It should be used with caution in case the patient suffers from kidney disease. The effect can increase due to the slow removal of the medical substances from the body. It is recommended to reduce a dose of gabapentin for patients with renal insufficiency.
