DESCRIPTION
Frasix (furosemide) works by inhibiting sodium and chloride reabsorption in the kidneys' loop of Henle, promoting the excretion of water, sodium, potassium, and chloride to reduce fluid buildup. Common indications include edema due to heart failure, liver cirrhosis, renal failure, nephrotic syndrome, and severe hypercalcemia. It is also used to treat hypertension and to rapidly reduce fluid overload in acute conditions.
Frasix (furosemide) is a loop diuretic with a fast onset of action—oral effects typically start within an hour, with diuresis lasting about 6 to 8 hours; intravenous effects appear within minutes. It increases urine output by inhibiting electrolyte reabsorption at the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle, leading to potent diuresis. It helps reduce blood volume and pressure and alleviate congestion and swelling.
Benefits:
Rapid reduction of fluid overload and edema.
Management of hypertension resistant to other treatments.
Effective in chronic and acute conditions with fluid retention.
Can be administered orally or intravenously based on clinical needs.
20 to 40 mg once or twice daily, adjusted based on clinical response. For acute fluid overload, intravenous doses range from 20 to 40 mg initially, with titration as needed. Higher doses may be required in kidney impairment or chronic conditions. It is often dosed in the morning to reduce nocturia.
