ELITH-300 (Lithium carbonate) is used to treat and prevent episodes of mania(frenzied, abnormally excited mood) in people with bipolar disorder (manic-depressive disorder; a disease that causes episodes of depression, episodes of mania, and other abnormal moods). Lithium is in a class of products called antimanic agents. It works by decreasing abnormal activity in the brain.

DESCRIPTION
ELITH-300, active ingredient Lithium carbonate has been used to treat manic episodes since the 19th century. Though it is widely used, its mechanism of action is still unknown. Lithium carbonate has a narrow therapeutic range and so careful monitoring is required to avoid adverse effects. Lithium's therapeutic action may be due to a number of effects, ranging from inhibition of enzymes such as glycogen synthase kinase 3, inositol phosphatases, or modulation of glutamate receptors.

The dose is determined by the level of concentration of lithium in the blood plasma. For adults, the dose is 300-600 mg 3-4 times per day.
The maximum daily oral dose for adults is 2400 mg.
