DEXAMETHASONE (Dextenza, Ozurdex, Cortidex, Neofordex) a corticosteroid, is similar to a natural hormone produced by your adrenal glands. It often is used to replace this chemical when your body does not make enough of it. It relieves inflammation (swelling, heat, redness, and pain) and is used to treat certain forms of arthritis; skin, blood, kidney, eye, thyroid, and intestinal disorders (e.g., colitis); severe allergies; and asthma. Dexamethasone is also used to treat certain types of cancer. This medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

DESCRIPTION
Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid used in a wide range of conditions for its anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant effects. Dexamethasone has been on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines (EML) since 1977 for several indications in multiple formulations. Since 2013, dexamethasone (Injectable formulation) has been indicated for respiratory distress syndrome in new-borns. Prednisolone is also on the EML and was included in 1984.

PACKAGE & DOSAGE
Tablets: taken orally with water.
Active ingredient: dexamethasone - 0,5 mg per tablet.
Excipients: lactose monohydrate, pregelatinized starch, colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate.
Doses are set individually for each patient, depending on the nature of the disease, the expected duration of treatment, drug tolerance and the patient's response to the therapy.
The recommended starting dose for adults is 0.5 mg to 9 mg per day. Maintenance dose is 0.5 mg to 3 mg per day. The minimum effective daily dose is 0.5-1 mg. The maximum daily dose is 10-15 mg. The daily dose can be divided into 2-4 doses.
After achieving a therapeutic effect, the dose is gradually reduced (usually by 0.5 mg every 3 days until a maintenance dose is reached).

Injections: IM, IV or Infusion.
Active ingredient: dexamethasone sodium phosphate (dexamethasone) - 4,0 mg.
Excipients: glycerol (distilled glycerin PC-94) - 22.5 mg, sodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate (sodium phosphate disubstituted 12-aqueous) -0.8 mg; disodium edetate dihydrate [(disodium salt of ethylenediamine-N, N, N ', N' - tetraacetic acid 2-aqueous (Trilon B)] - 0.1 mg; water for injection - up to 1 ml.
The dosage regimen is individual and depends on the indications, the patient's condition and his response to therapy. The drug is administered intravenously (IV) slowly in a stream or drip (in acute and urgent conditions); intramuscularly (IM); it is also possible local (in pathological formation) and subconjunctival, retrobulbar or parabulbar administration. In order to prepare a solution for intravenous infusion, isotonic sodium chloride solution or 5% dextrose solution should be used.
The drug is administered intravenously and intramuscularly at a dose of 0.5-24 mg per day in 2 divided doses (equivalent to 1/3 - 1/2 of an oral dose) in the shortest possible course in the minimum effective dose, treatment is gradually canceled. If high doses are used for more than a few days, the dose of the drug should be gradually reduced over the next few days or longer. Long-term treatment should be carried out at a dose not exceeding 0.5 mg / day. Intramuscularly, no more than 2 ml of solution is injected into the same place.
