Description
ARCOXIA® (Etoricoxib, Algix, Exxiv, Etozox) - helps to reduce the pain and swelling (inflammation) in the joints and muscles and treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, osteo arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, chronic low back pain, acute pain and gout. Arcoxia is non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by blocking the action of an enzyme in the body called cyclo-oxygenase (COX). COX is involved in making substances in the body known as prostaglandins, in response to injury and in conditions like arthritis. The prostaglandins cause pain, swelling and inflammation. Arcoxia reduces inflammation and pain by reducing the production of these prostaglandins. Arcoxia will start to relieve pain after a single dose, but its anti-inflammatory effect builds up over a few weeks of taking it regularly.

DESCRIPTION
Arcoxia (Etoricoxib) is a selective anti-inflammatory, meaning that it blocks the enzyme cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) responsible for prostaglandin (chemicals that play a role in pain and inflammation) synthesis without affecting the enzyme COX-1, involved in the production of prostaglandins that protect the lining of the stomach against stomach ulcers.
PACKAGING
ARCOXIA comes in the form of tablets for oral administration. 28 tablets per pack.
Active ingredient: Etoricoxib - 30/60/90 mg
Excipients: calcium phosphate, microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate.
DOSAGE
Posology
As the cardiovascular risks of etoricoxib may increase with dose and duration of exposure, the shortest duration possible and the lowest effective daily dose should be used. The patient's need for symptomatic relief and response to therapy should be re-evaluated periodically, especially in patients with osteoarthritis.
Osteoarthritis
The recommended dose is 30 mg once daily. In some patients with insufficient relief from symptoms, an increased dose of 60 mg once daily may increase efficacy. In the absence of an increase in therapeutic benefit, other therapeutic options should be considered.
Rheumatoid arthritis
The recommended dose is 60 mg once daily. In some patients with insufficient relief from symptoms, an increased dose of 90 mg once daily may increase efficacy. Once the patient is clinically stabilised, down-titration to a 60 mg once daily dose may be appropriate. In the absence of an increase in therapeutic benefit, other therapeutic options should be considered.
Ankylosing spondylitis
The recommended dose is 60 mg once daily. In some patients with insufficient relief from symptoms, an increased dose of 90 mg once daily may increase efficacy. Once the patient is clinically stabilised, down-titration to a 60 mg once daily dose may be appropriate. In the absence of an increase in therapeutic benefit, other therapeutic options should be considered.
Acute pain conditions
For acute pain conditions, etoricoxib should be used only for the acute symptomatic period.
Acute gouty arthritis
The recommended dose is 120 mg once daily. In clinical trials for acute gouty arthritis, etoricoxib was given for 8 days.
Postoperative dental surgery pain
The recommended dose is 90 mg once daily, limited to a maximum of 3 days. Some patients may require other postoperative analgesia in addition to Arcoxia during the three day treatment period.
