DESCRIPTION
Naridex (Anastrozole) is a nonsteroidal aromatase inhibitor used to treat hormone receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women. It works by selectively and competitively inhibiting the aromatase enzyme, which converts androgens into estrogens in peripheral tissues like adrenal glands, liver, and fat. Since many breast cancers depend on estrogen to grow, this reduction in estrogen levels slows or stops the growth of these tumors.

Its actions extend beyond estrogen suppression, influencing gene expression related to cancer cell growth and survival, making it effective in some resistant breast cancer cases. Anastrozole’s absorption occurs rapidly, and food intake slightly alters absorption rate without significant clinical impact.

Benefits:
  • Effectively lowers estrogen levels to reduce cancer growth.
  • Reduces breast cancer recurrence risk after primary treatment.
  • Alternative for patients who do not respond or tolerate tamoxifen.
