ATROPINE (aka Atropen, Atropin) - is an exogenous cycloplegic receptor antagonist. The main pharmacological characteristics of Atropine is its ability to block m-cholinergic receptors; it acts as well (although much weaker) on the n-cholinergic receptors. Atropine is thus to indiscriminate blockers m-cholinergic receptors. Used to treat certain types of nerve agent and pesticide poisonings, some types of slow heart rate, and to decrease saliva production during surgery.

Atropine may be used to treat stomach ulcers and duodenal ulcers, pilorospazme, cholecystitis, gallstones, bowel spasms, urinary tract infections, asthma, to reduce the secretion of saliva, gastric and bronchial glands, bradycardia, which developed as a result of increasing vagal tone. Atropine is often administered with analgesic drugs (analgin, promedol, morphine and others). In anesthetics practice Atropine is used before anesthesia and surgery, and during surgery to prevent bronhiolo- and laryngospasm, limit secretion of salivary and bronchial glands and reduce other reflex reactions and side effects associated with stimulation of the vagus nerve.

Atropine comes in eye drops solution.
Dosage for adults:
1-2 drops into the affected eye. At night you can use the drug from 1 to 3 times, breaks inbetween should be 5-6 hours.
Dosage for children:
Children are prescribed 0.5% or less solution.
